Decompression stop

Melbourne, Australia – I have spent the last 2 and a bit days trying to get used to the West again. Not an easy task, which kind of surprised me.

Tomorrow I will be heading to my parents’ house in Albury on the New South Wales/Victoria border to have a few quiet days on my own and try to get my head straight and reintegrate back into Western society.

Simon & Kate, I am massively sorry for piking on my visit to you. My brain is elsewhere right now and I just need a bit of time to adjust. I’ll give you a call tomorrow night.

Tangent – there was a huge prison here long ago called Pentridge, it was the scariest looking building I’d ever seen when I was a nipper passing through town many years back. Anyhow, a while back it was closed. Now it is a housing estate. I kid you not. And the weirdest thing is that they’ve demolished half of it and built new apartment buildings, townhouses, etc. The other half is completely intact, guard towers, huge stone walls and barbed wire a-plenty, right next door. Completely surreal. And they didn’t even change the name, it’s called Pentridge Village. That would be like having Alcatraz Mews in San Fransisco.

So I guess that in about 2 weeks I’ll be back in Sydney after popping in to Griffith and Canberra to catch up with some people, and then it’s back into it in preparation for my next adventure!
